Multiplying new churches – where can we start a new church?
One of the hallmarks of the success of the early church recorded in the Acts of the apostles was the rapid spread of the Church. There are many lessons the Church today can learn them about Church planting. They overcame many challenges as they propagated the gospel – an authoritarian government which classified them as second class citizens ; a hostile audience comprised of Jews who were very suspicious of this new movement and gentiles who were sceptical of this unsophisticated religion ; lack of material resources ; the early adherents were not very educated or sophisticated and they didn’t have a very good press as they were seen as anything from loonies to fanatics. Against all these odds they had an amazing success in spreading the gospel and planting Churches. We do have a lot to learn from them.
